Genuine accidents happen all the time. It is important that we learn from our mistakes and near misses to prevent anyone getting hurt in the future. We also have a legal responsibility to report anything we see that may be dangerous (joint and several liability). To assist in reporting accidents and near misses we use the SALUS portal.
Reporting an accident or near miss
If you have an accident or experience or see a near miss you should do the following:
- Treat any injuries or call for help.
- If possible, make the area safe, if not, call 4444 for assistance.
- Report the incident via SALUS.
Once reported, you will receive a confirmation email to let you know the report has then been received. Shortly after this you will be contacted by the Departmental Safety Officer (DSO). The DSO will investigate the incident with you and take appropriate action to reduce the risk of the incident happening again.
ESE Health and Safety
Due to the complex mix of risks within the department, finding out what procedures to follow and how to apply them can be a little daunting.
